Policy Terms
Terms
The terms for this site, the versions in your browser, and CS/M’s apps and plug-ins, in plain words.
- 01Who we areComplex State Machines, LLC (CS/M), formed in Montana, makes Matter / Field and Polite Disorder and runs this site. Write to csm@complexstatemachines.com.
- 02This siteYou’re welcome to read it, link to it and quote it with credit. Its words, pictures and design, and the names Matter / Field, Polite Disorder and CS/M, are CS/M’s, or their makers’ where they’re named: please don’t copy the site or pass it off as your own.
- 03In your browserThe lighter versions of Matter / Field and Polite Disorder on this site are free to play for as long as they’re here. They run on your device, in your browser, and send nothing back but a code you type in. We may change them or take them down at any time. What you make with them is yours, as in 06.
- 04From the App StoreWhen you get an app from the App Store, on iPhone, iPad or the Mac, Apple’s standard license for apps applies between you and CS/M: the Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Betas you try through TestFlight are under Apple’s TestFlight terms.
- 05The Mac betasFor now, the Mac apps and their VST3, CLAP and AU plug-ins come from CS/M as betas, from the beta page, and this section is their license. You may install and use them on the Macs you use. They’re for you: please don’t sell them, pass them on or take them apart. Betas are unfinished. They can break, stop working after a time or change before release, and what you save in one may not open in a later build. We may end a beta at any time. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them, with thanks and without owing you anything.
- 06What you makeYour scenes, projects, recordings and exports are yours, and so is the music you make with them, to release and sell as you like. The sounds, kits and studies built in are CS/M’s, licensed to you for exactly that: use them in your music freely, but don’t sell or share them as sounds on their own.
- 07As they areWe make the site, the browser versions, the apps and the plug-ins with care, and offer them AS IS, without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, beyond what the law requires. As far as the law allows, CS/M isn’t responsible for losses that come from using them, and if we’re ever liable despite this, it’s limited to what you paid us for them. For the App Store apps, Apple’s license, above, says the same and comes first.
- 08AgeYou need to be 13 or older to download the Mac betas or join the TestFlight list. Under 18, ask a parent or guardian first.
- 09Other sitesLinks to other sites, Apple’s among them, are there to help. Those sites have terms of their own.
- 10PrivacyWhat the apps and this site keep, and what they don’t, is on Privacy.
- 11The lawThese terms follow the laws of Montana, where CS/M was formed, and any dispute goes to the courts there. The App Store apps follow Apple’s license, above, and the law it names. If a court finds one of these terms doesn’t hold, the rest still do.
- 12ChangesIf these terms change, this page will say so first. Last changed 1 November 2026.
